Our first time in Calgary

Last Fall, in 2021, we took the whole family down to Calgary! It was all our first time, except for Nana Bear. I didn’t have much expectations, except having a simple relaxing time.

On Friday afternoon we dropped Nana Bear in the suburbs of Calgary so she could spend time with an old high school friend of hers. We headed to Best Western Premier Calgary Plaza Hotel to relax a bit after our three hours ride.

After settling in I realized I under packed! I had a big anxiety moment that morning so I will not deny it was my fault. Joe though, had all her things, including her swimsuit, as Nana Bear packed her packback.

As it was getting late, I wanted to see Downtown and we didn’t have a reservation anywhere, we headed to Moxy’s. I loved it! I usually prefer exotic food but that night I wanted burger and fries and it lived up to expectations. The staff was sooooo nice and one of them even impressed us talking about camera lenses and drones.

We headed back to the hotel and that was it for our Friday night.

Next Day! We had a lot of plans, including seeing dinosaurs and the City. We headed out to see the Calgary Tower but the rain was horrible. The kind of rain that makes you sick. I still enjoyed the view, even though it was cloudy. We couldn’t see the Rockies but I guess some day I’ll go back.

Just like the CN Tower in Toronto, but not crowded.
Spence’s first trip!

We planned on going to the Tyrell Museum but we didn’t look at exactly how far it was from Calgary. We drove from Edmonton the day before and had to drive back the next day, we didn’t feel like going too far. Science Center? Why not. We still had two hours before closing.

We got there and obviously Joe ran off and had the time of her life. We visited the two floors but it felt like two hours wasn’t enough. We had Planet ice cream (I forgot which planet I chose but it was obviously the black one) which were huge! I forgot my wallet in the bathroom, and the front desk lady had it! Like, where do you ever go and the staff just keeps your wallet safe for you and nothing has been stolen?! I couldn’t believe it, just for this I give them a 6 stars instead of 5.

Joe and I love media art!
This is definitely something I would do

Being a big fan of the environment, media art and family outing, I was totally sold. I will definitely take Joe back. Apparently, Edmonton has a Science Center too and I hope it’s just as amazing.

We had Chinese food after that. I forgot the restaurant, but it was delish! We took some pictures by the Chinatown bridge and walked around a bit. I was totally in love with Calgary, such a beautiful place.

When we got back to the hotel we went in the pool. Obviously it’s Joe’s favorite part of the hotel, right after having a king size bed to jump into as she watches tv. We shut it down after watching Night Fright, as Halloween was close.

The Chinatown bridge. Our hands were getting cold.

Sunday morning, time to pack! I did it like it was a stand to. We had to meet up with Nana Bear and we planned on going to Cobb’s Adventure Park. I never heard of it before but I was looking for something ‘fun for the whole fam’ online until I found their website. It looked pretty cool, affordable and everyone was down to go, Joe included.

We got there with no expectations and guess what? I got to rock climb for the first time in two years! We shot arrows, ran through a maze and chased down Joe who was running through the games. The highlight was definitely the kangaroos and sugar gliders. We all took so many pictures and seriously, I didn’t even know kangaroos are so soft. Now I definitely want one or two or three on our homestead.

Cobb’s adventure Park concluded our weekend in Calgary. We all hoped back in the car, absolutely exhausted. It was time to go back home!

One of the most adorable animals I’ve ever laid eyes on
Joe was totally in love with them
I couldn’t believe it, I pet a kangaroo for the first time!
Try to convince me this sugar glider isn’t cute
Even James enjoyed the animals
