Solo spring fishing afternoon

Usually, Wednesday afternoons are when I run errands, take stuff for donation, etc. Last Wednesday I didn’t really feel like only doing that though, I wanted to enjoy the nice day of hot season coming up. I jumped in my car with my fishing rod and gear and decided to drive along the L’Assomption river until I could find a fishing spot.

I did find something interesting! I pulled on the side of the road at a random spot with my foldable chair and my gear and I had absolutely no expectations on catching anything. Next thing you know I could see big things in the water….

I could definitely see some trout, but I broke my fly fishing rod 2 years ago (I think) and all I was able to get were largemouth bass! I caught monsters, the biggest ones ever for me.

Little selfie with Mister Chonker
I wear size 9 / 10 shoes, this chonker was about 16 or 17 inches long

I first intended to stay for an hour but I stayed for a few more, as I was so excited for my first catches of 2025. I really wanted to catch a trout…. But it didn’t happen.

I guess next time!

Next time I also intend to be more prepared, with more gear, a fly fishing rod, waders, sunscreen and some picnic stuff. I’m pretty excited to take the kids to the river! Maybe Spence can finally catch his first fish.

I tried several lures but the worm on a hook was the most efficient
Not forgetting a water sample to see what critters grow in this river

Oh! Out of context, I’m coming up with a fish page for this website! I think it’s time I start flexing my breeding projects!
