Last weekend we decided to opt for some glamping! We rented a hempcrete geodesic dome we’ve never been to before and it was a great ready to camp.
We got there late on Friday so the first night we chilled at our campsite, to let Keven get used to be on a leash even in the forest. We were on a working farm and really didn’t want to be those people. We made a fire and cooked some foil wrapped potatoes (obviously!) with pork shoulder. I took a little walk with Joe to see the animals, some goats and horses.

On Saturday we decided to go fishing! Before leaving the Dome we made some bacon and eggs, our usual camping breakfast.
We hit East Pit Lake, which we never heard of before but apparently is stocked with trout. And it was! We could see all the fish jumping at the surface trying to catch flies and dragonflies. It was pretty exciting.
There’s a little trail with a bit on an elevation that we have to take to access the Lake but going back and forth with Joe was no problem at all (the difference is unreal once a kid reaches 5 years old!).

She was a bit bored, Spence decided to have an explosive diaper moment and Keven was harrassing people so we decided it was time for a break. We headed down to Wabamun Lake, which is about 5 minutes away.
I went thrift shopping and for a crisp 3$ I got Joe a shovel and a bucket and Spence some change of clothes. We hit the dock but the water was too shallow for fishing. We let Joe play on the beach before wrapping it up for lunch.
After lunch we went back to the Pit and we established that James and I cannot both fish with 2 kids to entertain. We only brought back one rod and we took turn to cast. We also brought this time the longer leash for Kev, so he’d have more place to roam.
We dipped our toes in the water as the sun came out and we were starting to roast. Joe was determined to not share her new beach toys with Spence, as he’s not into playing, he just wants to eat everything. James caught a trout that we took back with us! We also used the Lifestraw, as we kept the water for the kids.

Back at the camp, James cooked some hamburger meat with veggies that we ate in lettuce wrap like tacos and I passed out really quick from being under the sun for too long. James and Joe played Uno and Yahtzee and listened to Disney while I was sleeping
On Sunday I woke up pretty early, ready to take on the day. I prepared half of the breakfast (so it wouldn’t entirely be cold by the time the family wakes up) and started packing the car. We are definitely horrible when it comes to kit explosion.

We let Joe play with the host’s son while we were getting ready, and she was so happy. Finally some entertainment for her!
We headed back to the Pit (our favorite spot of the moment) to fish for some more trout. This time, I thought about a few ideas for Joe. I brought the Uno cards and she helped me forage for dandelion, check out this post on how I kept her entertained.

We caught 3 more trouts that we cooked on the spot and oh were they delicious! We got wet and it was pretty nice.
We wrapped it up in the early afternoon to head back to the city.
