Dragon Girl Gang Roadtrip 1: Calgary and Banff

After dropping Kelsey and Chris at the Airport, I picked up Jenny and Vanessa and it didn’t take long after we got home for the Leo energy to rise and to start getting turnt.

While James stayed home with the kids, Van, Jen and I went to the local bar across the street to vibe. There was karaoke and it’s a great way to open a Girl Gang adventure! We didn’t stay until last call, as we had the road to take the next day.

The next day we left pretty late, as Jenny and I slept in quite a lot. We still had to pack the car, fuel up, get ready… Calgary was waiting for us and we were so not ready! We finally decided to leave early afternoon on Saturday. Kids, check, camping gear, check, backpacks, check… Nothing was stopping us except our own laziness.

We finally took the road and went straight to the hotel. We checked in at Staybridge Suites Calgary Airport and went back out for a little drive in the city. We went to China Town, which is way greater than the one we’ve got in Edmonton, and ate appetizers at an Izakaya. We loved it, Joe enjoyed her fried chicken and Spence even liked the grilled squid.

We took a little walk, went down to the Bow, where I was still amazed by how beautiful a city Calgary is. Jenny tried to approach geese, which are quite intense when you get to know them!

We went back to the hotel room to chill, and after a night of Spencer screaming to have chilling partners, Vanessa and I took the kids to the Hotel pool before checkout to let Jenny sleep a bit more.

After that, it was time to head to Banff! We took the Trans-Can Highway there, and first thing we did was setting up camp. We had a fantastic tent spot at the Tunnel Mountain Campground. Probably one of the best.

As I don’t have the best tent, we set up the small tent inside the big tent for insulation and went to the town to get some food. We took a little ride to the Bow Falls, and the viewpoint was packed! I wasn’t expecting to see so many people there.

We went through the Golf court to admire wildlife and the Bow, along with the mountains surrounding us.

I wanted to take everyone to the Hoodoos Trail but we figured it was time to wind down for the day. We went back to camp and started a fire. We had sausages and potatoes for supper (great campfire meal).

Jenny and the kids went to bed first, while Vanessa and I enjoyed the stars (and a UFO?) and the fire.

I slept like a rock, but it seems like I was the only one who slept well! As if I was the only one not scared by the idea of bears roaming around.

The next morning we had eggs and bacon for breakfast. After dismantling the camp, we headed to town to get some souvenirs and fuel up, then it was time to hit the Icefields Parkway Road! Lake Louise and Jasper were waiting for us!

Breakfast time!
