Vancouver Day 1 : Farm visit and Squamish

We made it!

We got here around 1300/ 1 pm yesterday. The plan was to stop at a local farm for Joe to look at animals but I was so exhausted from the third day of driving and the dehydration that I really needed to crash.

Our adventure was not yet to start. We got at the AirBnB earlier than expected but the host didn’t mind. We all napped, and James had to take an Uber to get here because I was still sleeping when he was calling.

We unpacked then decided to go see the ocean. I had to! James has been here before but not Joe, Spence (obviously, the guy has been alive for 5 minutes) and I have never seen the Pacific Ocean.

We went to Stearman Beach, 3 minutes away from here, and even though we didn’t stay for long. Joe and I finally got to spend some quality Mother&Daughter time, picking up shells and rocks. Spence was not having it though, so we came back after sundown,

We played cards and enjoyed the AirBnB while Stranger Things was playing in the background. I was too tired for life so I went to bed before the others.

I woke up quite early, as usual, and James had a horrible night. I kept stealing the blankets and Spence was showing off his Kung Fu moves. After shower and coffee, we packed up and went to a thrift store in North Vancouver.

Spence doesn’t want to go thrifting

We were looking for a kangaroo pouch to carry the bebe and a costume to substitute the Moana one I forgot at home. We found an Anna’s dress and I definitely got me a few pieces of clothes.

I love thrifting.

We headed out to Maplewood Farm where we enjoyed a relaxing family moment. Joe and I love farm animals, and the tiny goats definitely loved my skirt and my backpack! I was also quite surprised by how iridescent the feathers of a Peacock are.

After our stop at the farm we headed out to Squamish. What a stunning drive! We stopped in town for thrift shopping. We stopped at a bycicle repair shop where the lady was absolutely charming and recommended the Shannon Falls to see with the little ones. She sold us rock climbing shoes for James for so cheap I couldn’t believe it. We then stopped at Climb On where their customer service is amazing. James got himself a harness and I got rope, a belay device and biner for him. I’m a big Black Dimond fan so obviously that’s what I went for. Once again, amazing customer service.

Driving around Squamish

By then, things were not going too good. Jenny called me from Pearson Airport because her flight was cancelled! I was starting to have really intense anxiety, the usual. She got her flight reimbursed but we were still trying to figure out how she cold get here. I told to her to look at the flights for Victoria, and Pemberton as we couldn’t afford the 900$ flight with Westjet.

We drove around Squamish and took some pictures by the marina. I was having a panic attack without the hyperventilation. Trying not to look at my phone as I was starting to get sick from the anxiety. Flare is really a airline company we do not recommend.

I was wearing a skirt and obviously I forgot my wind pants to I picked up the most comfy chill pants at the thrift store for 4$ and we decided to look at the Shannon falls. With a stroller it was already a challenge. We only did the small loop the lovely lady recommended. The rest of the hike was not accessible on wheels so we didn’t even try.

Shannon Falls

We headed back to Vancouver and checked in the Ramada hotel. The staff was amazingly friendly. What are we used to in Edmonton to find everyone so nice here in Vancouver?

One lane open on the bridge

We then went out for food down Mainland Street and just walking it was refreshing. Being a tourist in 2022 is so great with Google Maps.

We ended up at Sushi Maro And oh, you don’t even understand! Half the staff were tending to our needs, the sushis were so fresh and cheap I simply couldn’t believe it. The price were oh so great! For less than 75$ we ate so much, took more rolls for takeout, Joe got her chicken wings (she’s weirded out by the idea of raw fish the seaweed salad is definitely a me thing). James got us cocktails, it was great for the whole family.

Wakame salad? No for Joe
