We did it! I drove all the way to Vancouver with the kids sitting impatiently in the back of the car and we all survived!
I would not do it again and it’s something I would definitely not recommend.
The first day I left in the afternoon, and that was a big mistake. A snow storm hit us right before Hinton and after Jasper. Obviously around Jasper the wildlife is just partying on the streets everywhere. Elks and mountain goats, the usual. Driving at night totally terrifies me, I was the slowest one on the highway. Much anxiety and fear, the most terrifying ride of my life. We made it to McBride alive, but I was not having it. I don’t recommend McBride as a stop for the family, as no restaurant delivers. We ate at the inn’s dinner.
The next day we got up early to hit the road, and there was definitely more to see around during the day. We took a break at a rest area where the mountain goats surprised me by saying hi.

We stopped at Cache Creek. Another place where food is not delivered. People drive fast in the 50 zone, but we still walked to the local pizzeria. We really didn’t enjoy our stay at the inn.

Day 3 on the road, finally things had to get more interesting! Obviously the drive through the mountains from Cache Creek to Vancouver was stunning. We stopped more than once for some pictures and just chilling at rest stops.

We made it to Vancouver early in the afternoon. We were supposed to visit a farm because Joe absolutely wanted to see foxes and horses (I couldn’t provide the foxes, but horses, sure thing!) but I was so brain dead from the driving I had to take a break.
We headed directly to the AirBnB. I fell asleep when James was landing so he had to Uber his way to us.
It was definitely an interesting ride but I would absolutely not do it again. Both kids complaining in the back, not a lot of rest stops, I don’t recommend a parent do a three day road trip alone with their kids.
Stay tuned for more, and a YouTube video is coming!
